Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade with the Head of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, Mrs. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger

 

On June 21, 2021, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin met with the Head of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, Mrs. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.

At the beginning of the meeting, Zavqizoda Z. A. welcomed the visit of Mrs. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger to Tajikistan, in particular, to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and took the opportunity to thank the UNDP for its continuous and fruitful cooperation and implementation of joint projects aimed at sustainable socio-economic development in Tajikistan.

Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that in order to fulfill the instructions and assignments of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan  Emomali Rahmon, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade is working closely with UNDP to implement the Sustainable Development Goals and the National development strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030 and with the support of UNDP, Tajikistan was the first country to successfully present its "voluntary national report" at a high-level meeting in New York, USA in 2017. At the same time, a National Report on the implementation of the country's strategic documents was conducted in 2018, which laid the foundation for further analysis of the implementation of the SDGs.

It was noted that in cooperation with UNDP, in order to ensure macroeconomic stability, reduce the dependence of the national economy on external factors, increase competitiveness and diversify production, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has developed the "Mid-term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025", which contributes to the nationalization of the Sustainable Development Goals in the country.

It was also noted that a number of projects to improve the standard of living of the population are currently being implemented in the Republic of Tajikistan together with the UNDP.

Zavqizoda Z. A. proposed to UNDP to raise additional funds for the country's project and implement further plans of the Tajik side, including the development of a detailed review of the Mid-term Development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2016-2020 and its presentation at a meeting of the National Development Council, strengthening the capacity of the Secretariat of the National Development Council, as well as for the preparation of a voluntary national report in 2022.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness for further development of cooperation in the mentioned areas, which generally contribute to macroeconomic stability.
