Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Head of the investment sector of Asia and Africa in the Qatar Investment Authority, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the transnational telecommunications company “Ooredoo Group” - Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani

On October 18, 2023, a meeting was held between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the Head of the Asia and Africa Investment Sector at the Qatar Investment Authority, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the transnational telecommunications company “Ooredoo Group” Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani.

Zavqizoda Z. A. noted that thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, and the Emir of the State of Qatar, respected Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, bilateral relations between the countries have reached a high level.

During the meeting, the parties noted that the state visit of the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the Republic of Tajikistan on June 8, 2023 and special meetings with the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, opened a new page in bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Zavqizoda Z.A. presented the priority projects of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Head of the investment sector of Asia and Africa in the Qatar Investment Authority, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the transnational telecommunications company “Ooredoo Group”  in particular the construction of an international passenger and cargo airport in the Dangara region, the modernization of JSC " Tojik Aluminum Company (TALCO), the opening of direct passenger routes between Dushanbe and Doha, the construction of the Shurob hydroelectric power station, increasing the competitiveness of Somon Air, and the construction of a processing plant, production, canning and storage for drying of fruits and vegetables in the free economic territory zone of Dangara, and asked the Qatari side to contribute to their financing.

In turn, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani welcomed the proposal and expressed his readiness to begin cooperation in the implementation of the proposed projects.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation.
