Meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan with the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan

On March 10, 2024, a meeting was held between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, and the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Kudratov Laziz Shavkatovich.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to preparation for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on trade and economic cooperation, which is planned to be co-chaired by the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan in the city of Dushanbe.

At the same time, an exchange of views took place regarding the expansion of trade and economic cooperation and the implementation of priority investment projects, including the joint production of cars in the Republic of Tajikistan and the establishment of tire production on the basis of TALCO OJSC for the needs of the automotive industry of Uzbekistan, as well as the joint construction of two hydroelectric power stations on the river Zarafshan.

During the meeting, the parties noted that it was thanks to the wise and far-sighted policies of the leaders of two neighboring and friendly countries that today Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have become one of the most reliable and strategic partners.

It was noted that in 2023, the volume of mutual foreign trade between the countries amounted to $504.4 million and Uzbekistan, with a share of 6.1%, was in 5th place in the structure of foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan. At the same time, the parties expressed confidence that this indicator does not reflect the existing opportunities between countries; there are still many opportunities to fully use this potential.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to establish mutually beneficial cooperation and implement the issues noted.
